On Show in Frankfurt – BMW Concept
The Frankfurt Auto Show sure delivered some outstanding concepts, this BMW offering was among the top for design and most important, functionality. Though I do not see BMW releasing this fluid body design any time soon, I do see the technology behind the propulsion hitting the assembly line in the not too distant future.

Working Solutions
We are being pushed towards this technology and it is companies like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes that will bring the quality workable knowledge to the playing field. The important word is ‘workable’, there is a lot of under-developed equipment out there right now.

If we are to pursue this green technology then we need it to meet our current production expectations, for example, when I’m standing on the showroom floor working the numbers for financing I don’t need to be working out the range and distance figures wondering if I can make it out to visit family 5 states over. I need to know I can get in my car and do what I need to.

This concept is out of reach as a production for the masses but the thought process that has gone into this beauty will deliver the expertise to create viable options. They have look at all options to make this possible, removing excess weight while maintaining real world function and feeling.

Acceleration of an M3
Power is supplied through a combination of a mid mounted 1.3L, 163 bhp turbo diesel 3- cylinder engine and two electrical motors, one over each axle, and all together can deliver a total output of 356 bhp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque.
With a curb weight of 3070lb that equates to a 0 – 60 in 4.8 seconds and a top speed upwards of 155mph. Range is estimated at 400 miles from a 6.6 gallon tank, which equals out to at least 60mpg.
