Mobile Video Recording

Here’s a look at the Hermes MVR (Mobile Video Recorder) that picked up four Global Media Awards for Best New Product of the Year at this year’s SEMA show. This modular DVR isn’t your average rearview camera, this one completely blows the competition out of the water, and is much more technologically advanced when compared to other similar systems on the market.
Witness Technology has produced a highly advanced, customizable rearview mirror that allows you to view up to four video inputs at once – capable of recording 3 inputs to an SD card, record audio, watch MPEG4 videos or playback recorded footage, display your GPS feed, and more from a single unit that securely clips on to your existing rearview mirror while still offering an anti-glare wide angle mirror with features like LED map lighting.

Capabilities

Hermes 101 model has one front facing camera built in with 3.6mm focal length providing real time recording of the front view at a wide angle (75 degree). It can connect additional 3+1 cameras for any camera/video input configurations that suits your applications. The SD memory card (when using a 32 GB SD card) can store up to 64 hours of continuous recording and will automatically overwrite the oldest file, which could come in useful after an unexpected accident. The system also comes equipped with one channel audio input that can record the conversation on site. Two modes of recordings are available, continuous, or motion activated. The recording parameters can be changed from different frame rate settings and recording file lengths. Built in LCD monitor can be turned off while recording for covert operation.

Hermes 102 comes with one more built-in front facing camera at 16mm (15 degree view angle) that allows the licence plate number to be recorded while pursuing suspects. The item is ready for external I/O so a remote audio can be recorded through a transmitter and receiver onto the unit while officers are not inside the car.
The cameras can be set up to view kids in the back seats, blind spots, even position at the back of a trailer when hauling. The system features a simple plug and play set up, clip on to your rear-view mirror set up the cameras, plug in to a cigarette lighter power outlet and you’re ready to roll.
The fact the Hermes records video means it offers even cooler possibilities that could be utilized at the track. Position cameras at the front wheels, at your pedals, or looking back from the rear of the vehicle, and you’ve got up to 64 hours of recording capabilities, giving you the ability record and create your own racing videos.
As stated we had the opportunity to see this product on display at SEMA and it definitely drew a large crowd. The image quality alone, without any of the other features, would have been enough to set this apart from other systems. Check it out the YouTube clip to see for yourself.
