The Terrafugia Transition – Flying Car w/Video

by James on December 31, 2009

More Aircraft with Road Driving Ability

Whatever way you look at this machine, it’s pretty freakin sweet! When used as a car, the Transition returns 30mpg as a FWD with a top speed of 65mph.
Not finding yourself getting to where you need to be quick enough? Well, with the push of a button the automated electromechanical folding wings are down and in place in 30 seconds, not much longer than the time it takes the average automated convertible top to open or close, and you’ve got a Light Sport Aircraft that can take off in as little as 50-foot, offer 115mph cruising speed, with a 460 mile range while returning 5 gallons per hour efficiency from its 100hp Rotax engine.

MotorMouthful of Cars

A Sound Talent

While this guys car, or lack there of, may need an upgrade from the water bottle or Ozark short throw shifter and invisible steering wheel, his ability to imitate an exhaust note is spot on, and unlike other fakers out there this guy doesn’t need to cover his mouth and hit keyboards keys!?!
I personally would have liked to hear a bit more of the Subaru impression, but he nails some awesome impressions of a fart-can equipped four-bangin ricer, a V6 tuner, an idling dirt bike and a rear-mounted VW.
Well worth the three and a half minutes. We warn viewers of swearing at the end of the clip.

Camaro Flip-Flop Criticism From Car & Driver

by James on December 30, 2009

SS vs 4.6L GT

Car & Driver are the seriously retarded far-left liberal of the automotive world, had they been running the country in 1917 they surely would have sided with the Germans, one need only pick up a copy their propaganda ridden printed drivel to see their salivating love for Deutschland engineering. When they do attempt patriotism it’s usually one-sided leaning towards Ford.

Well, back in March of this year C&D had the following to say in regards to the retro muscle offering from Chevrolet:

Camaro’s Zeta roots pay dividends, with the suspension striking a brilliant balance between lively, grippy road-holding and wonderfully compliant damping. Meanwhile, the SS offers decent feedback through the steering wheel.
Could it be better? Absolutely, but at least its deficiencies involve its interior detailing more than its dynamics.

Then in July, comparing the much superior 426hp Camaro SS with it’s independent rear suspension to the 315hp 4.6L Mustang GT and its standard truck-like solid rear axle, the retardedness reaches a whole new level when they print the following and deem the GT to be a superior ride over that of the 6.2L SS:

We wish Porsche had supplied the steering. Shades of Camaros past are evident in the slightly overboosted and overinsulated wheel.
The stiff, insulated structure soaks up engine vibes and tire moaning, but the rear end discombobulates and dances while accelerating over rough pavement.

We can only assume ‘the stiff, insulated structure’ they’re referring to, to be the over-rated ‘discombobulated’ C&D journalist behind the wheel, as the descriptive handling from the rear of the bowtie seems more fitting for that of a solid rear axle and not that of the best modern muscle car on the road, that just so happens to share its 4.5 multi-link rear suspension system with the Cadillac CTS. Orange County Choppers Family Feud

by James on December 29, 2009

Sr. suing Jr. For $1M

Our first love has four wheels, but we can still admire the inspirational vision and craftsmanship of the guys from the TV show Orange County Choppers when it comes to two wheels, and while we don’t necessarily set the DVR to record the events of the Teutel family on a weekly basis we are able to keep up-to-date with the on-going saga of the dysfunctional trio from upstate New York.

What was once the amusement and attraction of the show, the bickering back and forth between Jr. and Sr. with the odd bit of comedy from Mikey, has turned extremely sour. The father, whose arms have definitely been getting smaller, no longer speaks to either son, Mikey recently signed himself into a rehab center, and Paul Jr. is struggling to find work under the mantle of Jr. Designs volunteered to help develop a dog pooping park ‘pro bono’.

And if the situation isn’t sad enough already, Paul Sr. has filed a law suit against his son, and once right hand man, Paul Jr. for his shares of the world famous Orange County Choppers Inc. as well as $1M in damages. How bad must things be? I guess like most people, we thought , even hoped, somehow it would all work out and they’d all end up back together, but that doesn’t appear to be a realistic option now.

Chalk up another family broken due to the infamy of reality TV.

Rossion Q1 Roars Around Italy w/Video

by James on December 29, 2009

American Supercar Based On Noble M400

Rossion Automotive, an American auto-builder who purchased production rights to the English platform of the M400 from Noble, put together a 450hp beast with a top speed of 189mph.
Below is video of the Q1, with its 3.5L bi-turbo mid-mounted Ford V6 that can produce 390lb-ft of torque and propel the two-seater to 60mph in 3.1 seconds. Techs at 1G Racing installed a Getrag six-speed manual transmission and Quaife limited-slip rear differential.
After it was all complete, Italy was chosen as the venue to shoot the promotional video showing off the handling capabilities and pull-away power of the American-made car. While the Italian coast is a beautiful location for any promotional shoot, we can’t help but wonder if this was an attempt to compare its abilities to that of other superior Italian supercars, and if it was that’s pretty sad. An impressive car but not really the same league, yet.

Audi R8 Snow Day w/Video

by James on December 29, 2009

As Much Fun In A Snow Storm As It Is On The Track

Audi were kind enough to allow Ezra Dyer of the N.Y. Times and Automobile to test the 525 horsepower AWD R8 over the Christmas period, which proved to be too much of a temptation for the blogger as he, and the residents of New England were hit with their worst snow storm of the year.
Dyer decided this would be the opportune time to test the Supercars’ snow plow abilities and make a run to his local strip mall to finish off some last minute Christmas shopping. Might as well kill two bird with one stone and put together a video short for the auto fans of YouTube.

Cold Weather = Dead Batteries

by James on December 28, 2009

Opportunity to Laugh at Others

Be on the look-out for those you may know who have EV’s, as this harsh cold front is set to get extremely cold in some areas, there will be opportunity to poke fun at those who stupidly bought a 100% battery-powered car. You see, the extreme cold, well any temp below 32F actually, is the enemy of the battery! So you may see those who love the earth more than commonsense struggling, they may get to work but may not make it back home! You may see them freezing their buttocks off as they drive without heat to preserve battery charge, because as you enjoy the blower motor fan pushing air across the heater core, heated by your lushious-ly warm combustion engine equipped whip, and heating the cabin of your fossil-fueled car, you’re EV buddy will require battery power to produce heat, and that may not be an option, even if they are to complete a very short journey! So tease! My friends! Tease!
