10kg Lighter for 2010 911GT3, GT3 RS & Boxster Spyder Models
Porsche has announced plans to offer a new lithium-ion battery weighing in at just 6kg, 10kg lighter than the conventional battery, currently used in the 911 GT3, 911 GT3 RS, and the Boxster Spyder models.
You may remember Porsche listed the lithium-ion battery as a feature of their GT3 RS at this years’ Frankfurt show back in August.
Lithium-ion Recharging
The alternator will charge the battery quicker and allow a greater amount of charge/discharge cycles that will extend the life of the battery.
The new battery will set you back nearly $2900 if you install it yourself. If you don’t get your hands dirty, you can expect to fork out an extra $900 for Porsche to install.
And, it’s worth noting one other point. The battery is of no use in temperatures of 0 degrees Celsius and under.
