The Terrafugia Transition – Flying Car w/Video

by James on December 31, 2009

More Aircraft with Road Driving Ability

Whatever way you look at this machine, it’s pretty freakin sweet! When used as a car, the Transition returns 30mpg as a FWD with a top speed of 65mph.
Not finding yourself getting to where you need to be quick enough? Well, with the push of a button the automated electromechanical folding wings are down and in place in 30 seconds, not much longer than the time it takes the average automated convertible top to open or close, and you’ve got a Light Sport Aircraft that can take off in as little as 50-foot, offer 115mph cruising speed, with a 460 mile range while returning 5 gallons per hour efficiency from its 100hp Rotax engine.

Pilot License

You will need a pilot license to take this personal road-drivable aircraft upward into the skies, but manufacturer Terrafugia claim they can get you the required Sport Pilot License in as little as 20 hours with a Transition specific course. We’re not sure if that comes included with the $194,000 purchase price, but I’d hazard a guess it doesn’t! If you find yourself overwhelmingly consumed with the desire to own this state of the art mode of transport it will be available in 2011 and you can reserve yours now with a fully refundable $10,000 deposit.
