Topgear Captain Slow goes 253 MPH

by Matthew on January 17, 2008

Topgear presenter James May takes the Bugatti Veyron up to top speed on Volkswagens private test track. He manages to reach a speed of 253 MPH which is extremely fast and verifies that the Veyron is one cool car. At a speed of 407.9 KMH the tires will only last 15 minutes, but luckily you burn through 100 litres of fuel in just 12 minutes. The Veyron requires 270 BHP to take it up to 155 MPH. To get the last 98 MPH up to 253, it needs almost 4 times more BHP due to the forces that it needs to push against which try to slow it down. The Veyron has 1001 BHP to get it there. Bugatti actually limit the car to 233MPH under normal driving, but by using a special key you can unlock the top speed and see the car lower to the ground, have it’s spoiler retract and front air diffusers close.

The Veyron is one amazing car which we are sure to cover more of over the next few months.
