Tokyo Motor Show Debut
I first wrote about this hybrid of the automakers almost 2 years ago (click here to read) when it was rumored Toyota would work with Subaru to create a new sports car.
At the time we knew Toyota wanted a rear wheel drive, and best guesses were the 200hp 2.0L European spec Impreza block would supply the power. Some reports even extended the possibility of an all-wheel drive 300hp Japanese spec WRX/STi version.
Well, 20 months later, here are so near -production ready images of the debutant expected to show up at the Tokyo Auto Show at the end of this month.
FT-86 Concept
Here’s what we now know. It is a collaboration of Toyota and Subaru, yet looks more like a Mazda. The interior will almost definitely most likely, we’re certain, change. Expectations are the rear wheel will receive power from a 200 – 250 horsepower 2.0L I-4 block, via a 6-speed manual transmission. There are no plans at this time (fingers crossed) to offer a hybrid powerplant. The dimensions are 163.7 inches long with a wheel-base of 101.2 inches and it sits 49.6 inches high and 69.3 wide.
We expect to bring you more details at the end of the month.
